In the summer of 2010 me and someone from my family to Palermo which is in Scilly an island of Italy. To get to Palermo there are no direct flight there, so we had to go from London Heathrow to Rome then on to Palermo. The flight was at 0600 and the sleeper train would not get there in time. So we took a train up the afternoon before then stayed in a four star hotel over looking terminal 5 and one of the runways. So we got the "Hoppa bus" to the hotel which only takes 20 mins.
Then the Morning after we woke up at 03:45 (no point of going to sleep!) to get the "hoppa bus" at 04:30 to terminal 4 and then got there at 10 to 0500 only 1 hour before the plane takes off, but that was the first bus. When we got in to the airport it looked like no one was there (As it only was 5 Am), But then to get the out airline check in (the main Italian airline) which was to the right near the bridge to the Hilton. When i was approaching this part of the airport it was full the lines was over crowded as we checked in on line we thought there would be a bag drop desk but there was not. So we started to line up and talked to someone else and the said they were lining up for the 0730 flight to Rome, So someone from the ground crew came to us and said go to the upper class check in (but no upgrade!). So we just made the flight.
When we got to Rome for our connection to Palermo we had around 1 and a half hours and there i realised i left my I pod in the hotel room so we ringed up the hotel and they found it (which was lucky !) and they sent it to us in the UK free of charge! So then we had a nice pizza then got on our short 45 min flight down to Palermo, Scilly.
After a short expensive taxi ride to the hotel ! We found the hotel was in a nice place over looking the beach. We got to the our room which was nice with a window over looking the sea.
We had a nice 5 days, we went to in the central Palermo and had a bus tour on one of the days went to the fishing town of Trapani were there was a cable car so ride on. Then on i think the third day we whent on the 4 hour coach ride to Catania to go to the active volcano "Mount Etna" were there was a cable car to the summit of the mountain.
On the return flight from Rome to Heathrow the flight got in late because we were waiting in the take off line for 30 Mins. So we mist the first Heathrow Express to Paddington but got the next one and still got the same train to the south west.
I hope you enjoyed this travel blogging. Its great if you comment !
